I lost my job in 2004 and I got behind in a lot of my bills.  Then I had a medical emergency and spent a week in the hospital with no insurance.  It took me many months before I was able to find a full time job.   After many years, I was finally able to catch up on bills by working two jobs.  Someone told me I would better myself by going back to college so I did but I am having a hard time finding a job in my field so at this point, I keep my current job.  It doesn't pay well so it's easy to get behind again.  There are times when I have to choose between buying my medicine and buying food.  When things break, I can't replace them.  My neighbors told me for a couple years I needed my roof replaced.  I couldn't afford that!  I filled out an application with Rebuilding Together Portage and my house was accepted!  Rebuilding Together and thirty volunteers TOGETHER gave me that new roof!  They gave me hope.  They gave me so much more than that as well.  They MADE A DIFFERENCE IN MY LIFE.  Now I'm giving back to the community.  I have volunteered with them every year since then.  LH Aug. 2014
